Mind Shock

Weak isn’t it?  Not really.  For a “Mind” shocker, it’s surprisingly ineffective to aim at the head.  However, this weapon is extremely easy to crit.  Don’t rely on the first shot, as it scarcely ever crits (Seemed to only critical by random).  However, aiming at the center of the upper chest and even heart area seemed to force a constant stream of crits, even when strafing.  Keeping the curser close to or on this spot is absolutely vital for dealing critical damage, or even from keeping normal damage from being reduced.

Reduced Damage: If a player uses mind shock, but lets the target get too far away from the curser, or if they move around and sloppily keep the curser near the player, then damage will continue to reduce until the attack breaks off the player.  This also happens through walls.  Damage is around 3-5 points.

Normal Damage: Non critical damage dealt by mind shock.  This is typically the first strike or any non-critical direct hits on another player.  Damage ranged from 7-9 points.

Critical Hits: Aiming directly at the upper chest landed the most critical hits.  To me, mind shock is almost useless without critical damage, and works extremely well with a chain of crits.  Damage ranged from 14-17 points.

If we assume that the energy the MindShock uses is actually electricity, it makes more sense that the chest provides critical hits, as it may cause a distrotion in the heart.

I thought MS did about 20 damage a crit since it usually takes me 5 crits to kill someone at 100 hp.

A nifty fact about the MS that wasn’t mentioned, obvious or otherwise, is that it goes through shields and that against an Invis user that you can barely see, but are still aware of, it’s a great tool to point out their location to your team mates or to pressure them into breaking invis.

Another extremely nice feature of mind shock is that it can be very helpful if your having trouble hitting a character that is very good at jump dodging. If you can’t score hits with your SMG’s or whatever your using at that close range as you are chasing the flag carrier down the final stretch. It almost never misses and can whittle their HP down to nothing if done right. They are usually to focused on getting to the goal to worry about you.

Actually, I believe the Mind Shock and Mind Energy get crits for being on the same elevation as the target.
