Making an Unattended Install For Windows XP

Installing Windows Xp by hand can be a slightly bareable task. But imagine this, you are sitting there with a lab of 25 computers that need Windows Xp installed on them… Whats an admin to do?! Why not use the unattended Installation For Windows Xp!

 

1)      Capture the iso image, Open D:/Support/tools/deploy.cab (Click explore to view from my computer)

2)      Select all of the files by pressing Ctrl –A

3)      Select all icons, extract, create a new folder on the desktop and extract them there

4)      Close all windows, open up the deploy folder, double click the setup manager program

5)      Welcome window appears, click next

6)      New or existing screen appears, verify that create new is selected, click next.

7)      Type of screen appears, verify unattended setup is selected. Note: we must call our file Winnt.sif

8)       Product screen appears, verify Windows XP is selected, click next

9)      User interaction screen, Select Fully Automated, Click Next

10)  The distribution share screen appears, select setup from a CD and hit next

11)  Check I accept the terms and click next

12)  Name screen, enter name and organization, enter and click next

13)  Display screen appears, click next

14)  Select time window appears, adjust your settings accordingly

15)  Product window appears, enter valid legal key, hit next

16)  Computer name screen appears, check organization name page

17)  Admin password screen appears, enter a password and verify that encrypt is selected, hit next

18)  Networking component screen appears, verify that typical is selected and hit next

19)  Enter workgroup to be what you need, hit next

20)  Telephony screen appears, hit next

21)  Regional selection screen appears, verify that default is checked and hit next

22)  Hit next again

23)  Browse and shell settings, next to specify  default proxy and homepage settings, then hit browse settings, set, click next

24)  Installation folder screen, choose “A folder name I specify” and enter the folder name with “WinXP”

25)  Hit next until popup screen appears

26)  Save answer file to the filetype you want, click next

27)  Click cancel on the completed screen to exit

28)  Delete Winnt.bat (Looks like gears) DON’T CLICK ON IT!

29)  Open notepad and load the Winnt.sif file, and browse to the unattended section and enter a new line “Repartition=Yes” Save and quit

30)  Save file to floppy disk, shutdown the Windows XP machine
